This recipe uses already frozen French toast sticks that were bought from the grocery freezer aisle. It shows you how to heat your air fryer and how to cook them.

Frozen French toast sticks are cooked in an air fryer quickly and easily for the whole family to enjoy. The air fryer gets you crispy edges, while they become soggy when cooked in the microwave.

This isn’t a recipe for homemade French toast, rather it’s a method that uses frozen French toast sticks from the store. It gives you the time and temperature to cook them. Plus, there are a few tips and tidbits, too!

What is the original French toast?

The earliest recorded mention of a French toast is known to be from Apicius, which is a recipe book that contains recipes that dates back to the Roman Empire. So, French Toast isn’t from France, it originates from Rome. Then, it was known as “aliter dulcia,” meaning “another sweet dish.” It was made with sliced white bread without the crust, cut into large pieces, then dipped in a milk with beaten egg mixture. After that, it is fried in oil and then drizzled with honey on top to make it sweet.

What is French toast actually called?

If you thought French toasts originated from France, there is a brief explanation for that too. In France, they called it “pain perdu”, which literally means “lost bread” in English. It is also considered a dessert in France, rather than a sweet breakfast option like the US.

On the other hand, American versions usually include cinnamon, nutmeg and/or vanilla extract in the milk and egg mixture. Then, the syrup is added when serving. A lot of restaurants even add whipped cream, fruit and fruit syrups as a topping.
