Whitstable Oyster Fishery Company Restaurant
Fresh fish is served in an open-plan kitchen that was renovated by the Whitstable Oyster Fishery Company about fifteen years ago. By utilizing their own boats, dredgers, and fishermen, Whitstable Oyster Fishery Company ensures that the oysters are as fresh as possible, from April to September. The East Quay Shellfish Bar in the harbor produces rock oysters, which are then cleaned and graded. Pre-booking is needed due to the restaurant’s high demand, especially on weekends and during the summer months. They do not take any email booking.

The Whitstable Oyster Fishery Company is proud to announce the release of their new book, “The Story of the Whitstable Oyster”. Whitstable and the oyster fishing industry have a great and rich history that is documented in this beautifully illustrated book. Oyster cleaning, cooking, and eating instructions are also included.
In fact, oystering has been a part of Whitstable’s history since before the Whitstable Oyster Fishery Company was even founded in 1793. Oysters from Whitstable were sent back to Rome by the Romans circa 80AD, according to historical records. Discover in this book that although the Whitstable Oyster Fishery Company was founded in 1793, oysters have long been a part of Whitstable’s history. The Romans adored Whitstable oysters, and records show that they were sending them back to Rome as early as 80AD.
