This apple butter pie is something that I grew up eating on a regular basis. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen it made in my house or at another family member’s house. It is the yummiest fall pie! That is why we make it every year on Thanksgiving and Christmas. It makes everyone so happy.
My grandparents have been making this apple butter pie for as long as I have. My grandma would give us pieces on her plate before she had even dug in herself (we are not ones to turn down free food).
Apple Butter Pie Recipe
Apple butter is one of the best flavors to pair with pumpkin. Plus, it tastes awesome with cream cheese topping.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of apple butter
- 12 ounces of evaporated milk
- 3/4 cup of sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon of allspice
- 1 (9 inch) pie shell
Instructions
- Mix together apple butter, milk and eggs in a bowl.
- Mix in sugar, vanilla, and spices.
- Put the filling into the pie shell.
- Bake for 15 minutes in a 400°F oven.
- Turn down heat to 350°F and bake for 35-40 minutes more until the center is reached.
Recipe Note
Musselman’s Apple Butter is the best brand to use because it’s thicker and better for this recipe. Any apple butter can be used, but for a pumpkin pie-like consistency, a thicker texture of apple butter is best. This pie is made from apple butter, not applesauce.
Conclusion
All and all this pie is something you need to try. The filling is amazing and could be served on toast in the morning. It is something that I hope to make with my kids one day and for them to continue on.
This recipe is a family favorite. It is delicious and everyone loves it! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
