Bacon wrapped dried plums with cream cheese and almonds

These cocktail party staple  is very easy to make at home and is suitable to complement and enhance the taste of a heavy red wines, especially when you don’t intend to be serving  main meals. Try this on a cold winter day when you’ve gathered around the fireplace with friends or neighbors, enjoying a glass of red.

Bacon wrapped dried plums with almonds

Preparation time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

12 large dried plums, pitted
150 g cream cheese (preferably with no herbs)
A handful of raw almonds
1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
6 slices bacon, grilled
Freshly ground black pepper

Directions:

Soak dried plums overnight in water with lemon juice. If you didn’t plan ahead, soak them in hot water for at least an hour. Drain and pat dry.

Stuff dried plums with cream cheese and one almond per plum. Cut bacon slices in half. Wrap a slice around each dried plum and fasten with toothpicks. Give them an additional grilling for 4 to 5 minutes or until bacon is crisp.
